Jeld Wen French doors sold by Lowe’s and Home Depot
These are 2 year old Jeld Wen French doors (Feb 10, 2010). The stationary door is bowed due to the winds here. This was filmed shortly after a strong wind caused the stationary door to actually bow enough for the passage door to blow open (luckily we were home and I had some 2×4′s laying around). Even after inspection Jeld Wen would not replace the door. These doors are fiberglass – I do not recommend them for windy areas since the stationary door cannot take the stress and Jeld Wen will not stand behind their product. Note the snow that blew through the opening at the bottom – Snow was also blowing through the top. In the video you can see my hand – I had to put my hand on the door so that it didn’t blow open again. I ended up putting 2X4′s across the doors so that I didn’t have to stand next to them holding them closed for the duration of winter. Despite being only 2 years old, I will be replacing them with something else. Jeld Wen said 1. “faulty installation” THEN 2. “steel doors would be better suited” (implying fiberglass wasn’t up to the job) THEN 3. “we recommend putting them in so they open outward” AND wanted me to buy another set of doors (they NEVER recommended installing them that way).
